Shingles Zinc and Cladding Shingles - Case Study  FINGLAS CHURCH Challenges: The roof structure presented a number of design problems to overcome. The structure was lightweight metal decking fixed to purlins. The decking surface was the visible finish on the inside. The fixings were concealed and not visible inside as they were fixed into the hot rolled steel box section purlins. The existing waterproofing was built-up felt roofing fully bonded in bitumen, whereas the original waterproofing had failed and was overlaid with chipboard and more bitumen bonded felt roofing. The overlay was blistered and failed. It became clear the existing waterproofing had to be removed as it was not possible or advisable to overlay again.
